Nettie was the daughter of Horace Davenport (1838 PA) & Celia Haines. She married George Henry Gallup (son of John N Gallup) on 17 May 1893 in Jefferson, Ia. They were the parents of Edna, John E (1920), George (Gallup Poll), & Gladys H (1897).
JEFFERSON BEE -Tuesday, October 6th, 1953 - Funeral services for Mrs. Nettie Gallup of Washington D.C. were held from the Slininger chapel here last Friday October 2 at 11 o'clock in the morning. She died at her Washington home on September 26. The Rev Thomas J Reese, pastor of the First Baptist church, was in charge of services. Casket bearers were W. Emmett Schoppe, Whitfield Wilcox, Bill McCoen, Edmund Wilcox, Paul Schoppe, and John Shuey. Burial was beside her husband, the late George K. Gallup, in the Jefferson cemetery.
Mrs. Gallop, daughter of Horace and Celia (Haines) Davenport, was born at Buckhorn, Jackson county, Iowa. September 22, 1886, but moved to Eureka Mills near Jefferson at the age of one year with her parents. She lived there until she was married and moved into the town of Jefferson.
She married George Henry Gallup of Jefferson in 1893? and continued to live in Jefferson until 1924 when she moved to Seattle. She moved from thereto Washington D.C. in 1935. Her husband died in Seattle in 1930.
Mrs. Gallup is survived by four children Edna the wife of William Short of West Hartford, Conn.; Gladys of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Washington D.C.; John of the City Light Co. Seattle, Wash; and George Horace, Director of the Institute of Public Opinion, Princeton, N.J.; also six grandchildren. She is also survived by one great grandson; and two brothers: Frank Davenport a long-time resident of Jefferson, now of San Diego, CA and Clair Davenport of Jefferson; and by one sister Elna the wife of Norman A. McCuen of Detroit.
Her niece Kate Gallup the daughter of her husband's brother, J.F. Gallup, residing in Jefferson. Mrs Gallup is also survived by a Step daughter Ruth, the adopted daughter of late Mr and Mrs E.E. Gallup.
