Obituary.

Thomas Martin Reed, son of Leander and Mary M. Reed, was born in Tippecano county, near Buck Creek, Indiana, March 7th 1861. He moved with his parents to Newton county in the spring of 1871. Two years later his father departed this life for the life everlasting and the mother was left with eight children. Martin being one of the oldest found it was his duty to shoulder many reponsibilites. He with his two elder brothers assisted the mother during her many trials. He was always a willing worker. He performed his duties cheerfully, never caring for self but always thoughtful of others. He united with the Methodist Episcopal church at the Iroquis school house. At the age of about twenty-one he went to Loup City Nebraska. He transfered his membership to the Presbyterian church in that place, and remained a consistent member until his death.

He was married to Hattie Van Dorn April 7th, 1888. To this union was born five children, two sons and three daughters, Arthur aged 23, Zoe Reed Davis, aged 20, Zelpha, Aged 18, Ralph aged 16 and Leda aged 11.

He departed this life February 27, 1912, lacking but nine days of completing fifty one years. he is survived by his widow, two sons and three daughters and two grandchildren.

Some weeks ago as left his home in Nebraska in quest for health and to visit friends. While at his mother's, Mrs. Henry Slater, he was taken worse and died there.

On Thursday morning Feburary 29th, a short service was held at Mr. Slater's, conducted by Rev. T.J. Everett, pastor of the Methodist church, and then the body was taken to Loup City, Nebraska, for interment.
