He was born on March 8, 1949, along with his twin brother, Brad, in Brownsville to Durward L. and Blanche Mullen. They moved to San Antonio three years later and then to Bangs in 1963. There he graduated from Bangs High School and met his first love, Sharolyn. After graduating from Texas State University, he lived in Dallas to spend his adult life in business with his dad and Brad. Bruce and Brad were very successful in 8 to 10 different businesses, one of which was "Joe's Hitch and Trailer" in Dallas and Plano.

He married Deborah Brady and together they shared the most precious gifts from God, daughters, Heather and Megan. After 20 years apart, he reunited with his first love, Sharolyn, and they were married Sept. 8, 1999.

Bruce was preceded in death by his mother Blanche, sister Lana, and nephew Wade.

He is survived by his wife, Sharolyn Byler Mullen of Bangs; two daughers, Heather an her special companion Chad Fox; daughter Megan and her fiance Jeff Bratton, all of Conroe; stepdaughter Shy Ann Mayfield of Bangs; father D.L. Mullen of Bangs; twin brother Brad and wife Carole of Austin; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He also leaves ehind best firends Ken and Gayle Fitzgerald of Bangs; his extended family at "Joe's Hitch and Trailer" in Dallas; and his friend and caretaker, Stacey Newman. He is also survived by many dear and close friends who were his "special" family.

Bruce had such a passion for life and each day was a new adventure. Bruce lived life flirting with fate and balancing on the edge. His favorite saying was, "I am never late, always just on time." Bruce did not lead a mundane life; thjere was never a dull moment. He had such a great sense of humor with a contagious laugh and beautiful smile. Bruce would want us all to celerate his life and never stop telling those funny and crazy stories, "Remember when..."

Bruce had a real love for everyone, thinking in terms of what was best for the other person. He was the ultimate caretaker, with the special gift of mercy. He would take care of family, friend and even total strangers, anticipating each individual need with this inner wisdom.

Bruce's strong passion for life continued even through his long and painful struggle with ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease. He never lost hope and fought a hard fight until his last breath on this Earth. "He truly lived until he flew."
