Mary Emery was the first wife of J. Scott Stevenson. She was a daughter of John Emery and Susanna "Ann" Covert. Mary and Scott were married on 11 Sep 1823 in North Liberty Twp., Mercer (now Lawrence) Co., Pa., and they had four children who survived to adulthood--2 sons and 2 daughters--Sarah Ann (b. 1824), Elizabeth J. (b. 15 May 1832), David Henry (b. 12 Feb 1841) and Mary Jane (b. 3 Jun 1843). Mary died when their youngest child Mary was eight months old. Burial place of Mary Emery Stevenson is unknown.
On 12 Jul 1847 at South Presbyterian Church in Plain Grove Twp., Lawrence Co., Pa., Scott married his second wife, Mary Anne Riddle, who was born on 5 Aug 1801 in Wheeling, Ohio Co., W.V., a daughter of Edward Riddle and Margaret McMillan. Mary Anne was 46 at the time of her marriage to Scott, and they had no children. Mary Anne died on 21 Dec 1879 in Harlansburg, Lawrence Co., Pa., and she is buried at Unity Baptist Church Cemetery in Harlansburg.
