Andrew Stoughton (1780± - 1845+/-) Age about 65+/- years.
(William;??; Thomas, Sr.; Rev. Thomas)
Andrew Stoughton was born circa 1780, presumably in New Jersey. He later migrated to Central Pennsylvania, with his Father, William and then on to Butler County, PA, circa 1800 or, perhaps, a little before that.
In 1820, Andrew was living in Donegal Township, Butler County, PA and was, presumably, Farming. He was married and had 5 children, who are enumerated, in this census.
His last will and testament was authored on 12 March 1845 and he was listed as living in Muddy Creek Township, Butler County, at the time of this will. He was reportedly of sound of mind, but weak body and he names his wife, Rebecca and his children: Jacob, Thomas, James, Eliza, Polly(Mary) and Jane. He names his son Jacob as his executor.
Andrew is buried in the Harlansburg Unity Baptist Cemetery and he is in the section which is across the street from the Church and this was the old Presbyterian Section. His stone is totally illegible now, but I did get a rubbing of it some years ago and it was definitive for his name and death year.
He married Rebecca ______.
His children are:
1. Thomas Stoughton, born 24 Feb. 1817.
2. Jacob Stoughton, born 2 Sept. 1818.
3. Felix Stoughton, born 7 Feb. 1820; died 7 Sept. 1833.
4. James Stoughton, born 26 June 1821; married Margaret Boyd. We feel this is the James Stoughton who was a landowner and had a farm, in Clay Township, just north of the Village of West Sunbury (Coultersville) and is listed in the Clay Twp. 1860 census and the Center Twp. Census of 1850…If this is the correct James, his children are: 1. William Stoughton, born 1847 and 2. Elvira Stoughton, born 1849 and 3. James Stoughton, born 1854. He appears to have died, prior to 1870, but of this, we cannot be sure.
5. Jane Stoughton, born 23 Sept. 1823; married David L. Kennedy. One known child: Orren W. Kennedy (Died 9 June 1913)
6. Mary R. (Polly) Stoughton, born 1825.
7. Eliza Stoughton.
