Archibald Jackson Steele Barnett was married to Elizabeth Jane Arington on December 12, 1869 in Polk County, Arkansas by Joseph Cartwright, Justice of the Peace. It was a triple ceremony with two of Eliabeth's siblings and took place at the side of the road because high waters kept the wedding party from reaching the bride's family home. Archibald was a missionary Baptist preacher and built the Barnett Prairie Baptist Church and Barnett School. He knew the Choctaw language well and became an interpreter for the Choctaw preachers and transcribed the new testament in to Choctaw. He also worked as a farmer and chimney builder.
