May Dell Thurman, 75, Commerce Street, died Wednesday evening at Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, where she had been a patient since May 17. She had been in failing health for the past several months.

Born Aug. 7, 1922, in Enid, Okla., she graduated from high school in Stockton, Calif., and attended a year of cosmetology school in California.

She married Donald C. Thurman on Aug. 8, 1941, in Carson City, Nev. The couple moved to the San Francisco, Calif., area to work during World War II. After the war, the moved to Okinawa to help rebuild the island from the war's destruction.

They then returned to California to work in the lumber industry and Mrs. Thurman was her husband's secretary. In 1971, they moved to New York and settled in Heuvelton in 1974 to establish Thurman & Sons Inc., a lumber mill which deals in cut lumber and wood pallet manufacturing. Mrs. Thurman was president of the company for many years.

Mrs. Thurman especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Surviving besides her husband are two sons, five grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A sister, Jessie Stites, died in 1985, and a brother, Perry Johnson, died in 1924.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Fox Funeral Home, Ogdensburg, with the Rev. R. Valley, pastor of St. Raphael's Church, officiating. Burial will be in Foxwood Memorial Park, Ogdensburg.
