Wenatchee World - May 3, 2005

Rilla Geneva "Jerry" LeMaister passed away peacefully on April 25, 2005, at the Cashmere Convalescent Center at the age of 91. She was born on August 12, 1913, in Fay, Oklahoma to Young Andrew and Mattie Boyd Abercrombie, and was one of eight siblings. The family came to Washington State when Jerry was nine.

Jerry developed a strong work ethic when she stayed in Colfax to finish high school and worked for her room and board while her family moved to Wenatchee. In high school, she was captain of the girls' basketball team and a student coach for baseball and basketball. She also represented girls' athletics on the student newspaper. After graduating in 1932, she moved to Wenatchee to join her family and she worked in the fruit orchards. In 1934, she married Harold K. Richardson and the two became parents of a daughter and a son.

The family moved to Seattle during World War II to work at Boeing where Jerry was a forklift driver. After her husband's death in 1943, she returned to Wenatchee, where she cared for her mother until her death the following year. She then moved to Cashmere, where she resided for the last sixty years. She worked at several places including the U.S. Post Office, Doane's Valley Pharmacy, and Blue Star Growers. Jerry married Eugene Charles "Gene" LeMaister on January 21, 1949, and together they operated Gene's Associated Service Station and Fruit Stand on Eels Road in Cashmere. They enjoyed fifty two and one half years of married life at their home on Eels Road before Gene's death in 2001. Their shared interests included camping, fishing, hunting, playing cards, bowling and just being with people. Jerry loved to bowl and was inducted into the Wenatchee Valley Women's Bowling Hall of Fame in 2000. Both Gene and Jerry were volunteers at the Chelan County Museum where Jerry served as a hostess and hostess coordinator. She greatly appreciated the many friends she made through the years including the Potluck Gang and the Coffee Group. Jerry will be fondly remembered as a "people person" who always had a good sense of humor and enjoyed having a good time. She was a long time member of the Cashmere First Baptist Church.

Jerry is survived by her son, Gerald K. Richardson of East Wenatchee; and her daughter, Darby Richardson Lockett of Concord, CA, and their spouses, Rosalie Richardson and Dudley Lockett. She also leaves behind four grandchildren and their spouses, Bryan and Stephanie Lockett of Antioch, CA, Bruce Lockett of Oakland, CA, Cari (Richardson) and Erik Rohrer of Forks, WA, and Eric and Brooke Richardson of Wenatchee; plus four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands; and all her siblings, including Y. Clem Abercrombie and Orma Steiner Hampton, who were longtime area residents.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Jerry's life at the Cashmere First Baptist Church, 103 Aplets Way, Cashmere, on Sunday, May 8, 2005, at 3:00 p.m. Those who wish may give gifts in Jerry's memory to the Cashmere First Baptist Church Memorial Fund or to the Chelan County Museum, 600 Cotlets Way, Cashmere, WA.
