July 4, 1817 Levi Shepard arrived in Brownhelm Township with Sylvester Barnum, and Stephen James. These are the first families that settled in the town. Levi was one of the original township trustees and a justice of the peace.

(2) at Brownhelm, 0., Mrs. Ruth Hine, d. 1849; m. at Medina, 0., Mrs. Betsey Lindsley, d. Feb. 26, 1868 ; moved to Brownhelm, O., in 1817, being one of the first set tlers; deacon of the Congregational Church there for fifty years.
