~MY ANCESTOR~
The third son of JOSEPH & ABIGAIL (RHODES) BUTTON, he married (1) HANNAH WILCOX on February 15, 1770 at the First Cong. Church, Preston (now Griswold), New London, Conn. and (1) Mary about 1792 in Vermont.

Stanbury (also spelled Stanberry) was named for this grandmother, ABIGAIL (STANBOROUGH) RHODES.

According to the place of birth, he probably came to Vermont between 1782 and 1784 and lived first in Mount Holly. He was first found in the records in the Vermont 1790 Wallingford census as "Stanley Button" with three males over 16 yrs, one male under 16 yrs, one female over 16 years & seven females under 16 years. This is consistant with his family in 1790 except one female under 16 is missing.

The known children of Stanbury & Hannah Button:
Stanbury Button, Jr. b. 1771 in RI (19 in 1790)
Joseph Button b. 1773 in RI (17 in 1790)

Joel Button ( 1797-1801)

His wife, Mary, was appointed administrator of his estate on May 13, 1797.
