Johann Schlundt emigrated to America in 1852 aboard the Good Ship Nelson. Born and raised in Unterschupf, Germany, near Baden, he was the son of a tanner. His own trade was that of a rope-maker. He came to the USA with his second wife, Anna Sophia Margaretta Grun Schlundt, and their children along with his son Karl Friedrich Schlundt from his first marriage. (His first wife, Eva Barbara Preis died in Germany 28 April 1841.)Their port of entry was New Orleans and having traveled up the Mississippi River they settled first in Vincennes, Indiana, where Johann became a minister. In 1856 he went to Louisville only to be redirected to Holland, Indiana, to serve a Lutheran Congregation there. In 1860 he moved to Boonville and served a church there and in Newburgh as well. Around 1874 he moved to Manchester, Missouri. He retired to Baltic, Ohio, and then finally to North Amhurst, Ohio, now known as Amherst.
