Janie Evelyn Sullivan Alverson, 94, formerly of Woodville Road, widow of John Henry Alverson, died on May 10, 2009, at the Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center in Laurens.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Henry Wideman and Lavinia Medlock Sullivan. She retired from J.P. Stevens and was a member of Washington Baptist Church, the Friendship Sunday School Class, and the Emma Campbell WMU. Mrs. Alverson, affectionately known by her family as "Granny," loved her family very much and they were the center of her life. She had many friends in the Fork Shoals area with whom she maintained close friendships until her move to Martha Franks. She loved the outdoors, her flowers, her garden, and the lake.

She is survived by sister, Eunice Inez Sullivan George of Greenville; sisters-in-law, Virginia King Sullivan of Gastonia, N.C., and Ethel Alverson Stubbs of Greenville; grandsons and their wives, Richard and Cathy King of Simpsonville, and John and Cindy King of Clinton; and great-grandchildren, Brooke King, Erin King, Nicky King, and Catie King.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Catherine Joyce Alverson King; sisters, Lydia Alverson and Doris Reid; and brothers, Julian Sullivan and Ralph Sullivan.
