Capt. Joel Harrison McQueen was a well-known mariner and ship's captain.

He was the son of Daniel McQueen and his first wife Catherine Lamerson. Joel's middle name was after his maternal grandmother, Mary Harrison.

The McQueen monument is made of local sandstone and the sides are cracking and falling off. On the left in the picture, a chunk has already fallen off. That chunk was where the names of Joel's wives Frances Jones and Abbie Betts were engraved.
