An immigration record for Leon and his father Joseph Narloch (changed to Narlock) show them arriving in New York, New York on 29 Nov 1882. This record and other early documentation of Leon in the United States list his birth year as 1875. In fact, most sources seem to to verify 1875 as his true birth year, and it seems that 1872 did not appear on vital records until his death, indicating that perhaps the wrong year is engraved on his grave marker.

Upon their arrival in the United States, Leon and his father lived with and worked for Leon's aunt and uncle Maryanna (Narloch) and Joseph Rogalla near Minto, ND. According to Narlock family lore, Joseph returned to Germany, and he does disappear from records in the U.S. around 1890. Leon supposedly left the Rogalla farm at age 16 and went to work.

Leon eventually met his future wife, Katherine Pauline Scheuble after working for her father Friederich Scheuble near Waconia, MN. After Leon and Katherine married, they lived near Wheaton, MN and farmed for a short time before moving to Casselton, ND, where most of the children were born and raised.

The belonged to Martin's Lutheran Church in Casselton and lived there until 1948, moving to Fargo, ND and spending the remainder of their lives there. In Fargo, they belonged to the American Lutheran Church (now Peace Lutheran Church) and their funerals were held there.

Leon and Katherine's youngest daughter Margaret (Narlock) Burtell lived with them and took care of them during their final years.
