Disaster Hits at Group in Funeral Car
Clutching Child Bible History books in shaking hands, two tear eyed and frightened children sat outside the emergency room of St. Joseph's hospital this morning while doctors attended their mother and two other women, all injured in a traffic accident in which the children escaped unhurt.
The children, Margaret Grasa, 10, 407 26th-st,and her brother,Carl,6, were in the funeral procession for a seven-year-old friend when a street car hit the car in which they were riding at the corner E. 30th-st and Grove-av..
Their mother, Mrs. Mary Grasa, 27, was severely cut on the right arm and suffered injuries about the body. Mrs. Mary Hunyad, 49, 2503 E. 29th-st, and Mrs. Lottie Matakovich, 49, 2710 Caroline-av. other passengers in the car, were painfully injured. The children and the driver, Ernest O. Gust, 735 E. 33rd-st., escaped injury.
Margaret sobbed as she told of the accident. They were in the last car of a funeral procession for her little friend, Thomas Fascko, 3246 Norfolk-av., who died Thursday.
"We were crossing the street and a street car hit the automobile we were in." Margaret said. "I cried for my mother because she was hurt, and we came to the hospital in an ambulance."
The funeral procession was on its way to St. Vitus church, E. 32nd-st and Peral-av..
The Mathews Funeral Home ambulance took the three women and children to the hospital.
