CLEMETH L. (BUD) PIPER Resident of Manteca, CA died August 9, 2006 after a bout with cancer. Born November 24, 1922 in San Pedro, CA he grew up in Oakland and lived most of his working life in San Leandro, CA where he and his wife, Betty raised four boys. He retired from the grocery business in 1982 and they moved to Twain Harte, CA, close to Yosemite and Kennedy Meadows, their favorite camping and fishing spots. His wife died in 1998 and he moved down to El Rancho Retirement Community where he died. Bud was a WWII veteran serving on the Destroyer, U.S.S. Beale during the battle of Surigao Strait in October, 1944. He was a loving and supporting husband and father. Bud and Betty lost their first son, Jim, in Vietnam in 1967. Surviving are is sons, Gary Piper and his wife, Janet, of Hendersonville, TN; Dennis Piper and his wife, Cindy, of Tracy CA and Tom and his wife, Raydean, of Tracy CA; five grandchildren, Scott, of Livermore, CA, Gina, of Pleasanton, CA, Jeremy, Jason and Nicole and one great-grandchild, Jocelyn, of Livermore, CA and close companion, Frances Darling of Manteca, CA. Memorial will be held Saturday, October 21, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 S. Central Ave., Tracy CA; (209) 836-1970.
