Lena Gardner died Monday, August 18, 1997 at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home in Imperial, Nebraska at the age of 93. She was born June 16, 1904 at North Bend, Nebraska, the daughter of the late John and Anna (Witzke) Schmidt.
As a child Lena came with her parents to Hayes Center where she grew up and graduated from rural school at Hamlet, Nebraska
On September 23, 1923 Lena married Grey Marvin Gardner at Atwood, Kansas and they spent their lives farming and ranching in Hayes County, Nebraska.
Lena was preceded in death by her husband on April 6, 1987. Lena has spent the past ten years at Imperial Manor Home.
Lena is survived by two daughters: Irene Carse of San Louis Obispo, California; Ramona Wilcox and her husband, Harold of Palisade, Nebraska. Two sons: Marvin L. Gardner and his wife, Martene of Salem, Oregon and George Gardner and his wife, JoAnne of Roundup, Montana. Seven grandchildren: Brock Gardner, Dana Baker, Lisa Burdick, Grey Gardner, Debra Wilcox, Steve Carse and Marge Carse. Fourgreat-grandchildren: Beau Burdick, Cody Gardner, Kelsie Gardner and Ryan Gardner.
