On Christmas Day [1893], a tap came at the door. It was Patriarch Henry Lunt.
"I have come with a message from the Lord ... Why bless my heart! I had no idea of the hunger and suffering you have endured until the Lord showed it to me last night. I have walked the floor waiting for daylight that I might come and deliver the blessing the Lord Promises you," he told the family.
The patriarch continued, " Tell Brother Durfee the Lord is pleased with him in the way he has shared his scanty portion with others. Get in a good lot of seed. Plant every foot of land you can-every hill of corn, squash and potatoes-because the Lord is going to give you a bounteous harvest. I bring you a promise that you shall never suffer for food, neither you nor your animals in the future as you have in the past. You shall be able to pay your obligations and live." (Quoted from Nancy's writings)
The Durfee family exercised great faith in the fulfillment of this marvelous blessing. The harvest that year was spectacular! The potatoes yielded 400 bushels which were sold for 4 cents a pound. They soon got out of debt.
