Son of Isaac Bigelow (b. 1713) and Abigail Skinner, married Polly Wilson, November 07, 1789, Putney, Windham County, Vermont.

Rev. Bigelow was the first Universalist preacher in the Portage County area, who came into northern Ohio from Winchester, New Hampshire in 1814 or earlier. By 1821 there were sufficient Universalists to call a meeting at Palmyra, Ohio and organize the Northeastern Ohio Universalist Association. Rev. Bigelow, who was chosen clerk at the meeting, wrote a few months later to an eastern paper that there were ten Univeralist ministers in his part of Ohio.
