Selma Johnson was born May 12, 1882 to Jones and Christine Peterson in Smoland, Sweden. (Their last name was later changed to Johnson). Selma immigrated to this country in 1903, settling in Wausa to do work as a hired girl. Later two sisters would join her in this country, Amanda (Mrs. George Tews) and Hilma (Mrs. Olaf Olson).
Charles and Selma were married February 14, 1907 in Wausa. They began farming close to Bloomfield and later purchased a farm ten miles northwest of Bloomfield. In 1947 Charles and Selma retired from the farm and moved into town. Charles passes away in 1956 and Selma in 1974.
Charles and Selma were the parents of seven children: Elsie Christine (Otto Naber), Selda Caroline (Clarence "Curly" Johnson), Herman, Abbie Irene (Chris Andersen), Eddie Carl (Lena Riesz), Eva Selma (Lloyd Robicheau), and Levi Charles (Delores Sparks).
