LAURA R. FREDERICK
Laura R. Frederick (nee Cobb), 92, of North Ridgeville, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain after a brief illness.
Born in Lorain, she was a lifelong resident, graduating from Lorain High School with the class of 1932B. She moved to Elyria Township in 1950 and had been a resident of North Ridgeville since 1992. She worked Elyria West High School for 20 years, retiring in 1975 as head cook.
She was a 37 year member of Church of the Open Door in Elyria, where she was active in Ladies Bible Study, serving as a group leader for 17 years. She also served as a Deaconess and for 15 years was the head cook for the church’s Wednesday night fellowship meals. She loved reading and supporting missionaries.
Survivors include sons James A. Frederick of Avon and Paul J. Frederick of North Ridgeville; daughters Reba Staffeld of Lorain and Melva Hazen of Phoenix, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Melvin R. Frederick, in 1998; her parents, Howard J. and Reba R. Cobb (nee Kellogg); and brothers James Cobb and Howard Cobb.
Friends may call 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. The Rev. Robert Schroyer, associate pastor of Church of the Open Door in Elyria, and the Rev. Scott Frederick, her grandson, will officiate.
Burial will be at Crownhill Cemetery, Amherst.
Memorials may be made to CHP Medical Foundation/New Life Hospice, 3700 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44053.
