Mehetable Shepard Henderson was born September 26, 1763 in Plainfield, Windham, Connecticut. She and James Henderson met when her family and his moved to the Turner Land Patent in what is now Vermont. This is the area from which the company that James Henderson served in the Revolution came from. One of Mehetable Shepard's uncles served in the very same unit as James Henderson. Metetable & James son Jacob Shepard Henderson, 1800-1891, is named for her father, Jacob Shepard (b. 1738).
