George was born Oct. 9, 1810 at Northleach, Gloucesterhire, England. His mother's name was Ann. He married Harriet Harding and they had nine children. George and Harriet joined the LDS Church and after several years felt the desire to go to Zion(Salt Lake City). They sailed on the ship Thornton with six of their children(George Jr. had died in England, Ann stayed with George's Mother in England, and Richard had preceded his family to Salt Lake.)). They made their way to Iowa on a train. They started west on July 15, 1856 with the ill fated Willie Hand Cart Co. Because of the late start and an early snow storm the Willie Co. endured many hardships on their way to Zion. Rescuers eventually arrived and helped the group into Salt Lake. Many of the pioneers in this group died on the trail. The Humphrys Family was blessed that no one died. George had brought a gun from England. When the food supplies ran short, they were able to hunt game. This was a great blessing. After arriving in Salt Lake they lived there for a short time then moved to North Ogden. Around 1868 Richard Humphrys (George's cousin) visited George and Harriet. He was preaching for the Josephite Religion. George and Harriet converted and went with him, along with several of their children, to Kansas. George passed away Nov. 27,1881 in Rush Center, Kansas.
