TRAGEDY STRIKES AS CHILDREN PLAY WITH YULE TOYS
Lorain Girl, 8, Fall on Basement Floor, Dies of Head Injury

Merriment of three children playing with Christmas toys was suddenly turned into a tragedy in a South Lorain home last night.
Eight-year-old Gertrude Ann Debo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Michael Debo, 219 E 29th-st, struck her head on the basement floor at 3:30 p.m. yesterday and died four hours later from the injuries.
The girl fell when her foot caught on the back of a toy chair which she was attempting to jump.
"Watch me jump this," she told her five-year-old cousin, Mary Bodnar, 1676 E.29th-st. as she stood on the seat of the chair. The first time she was successful.
"I'll show you again," Gertrude cried merrily. She tried again. Her foot caught and she fell to the concrete floor.
Her father, sitting upstairs, went to the basement when he heard the cries of his daughter.
"I hit my head, but I'll be all right." she told him.
She walked up the steps from the basement. A physician was called.
After an examination, she was told to rest. About 6 p.m., she walked to another room, complaining of a headache.
She slept until 7:45, when she took a turn for the worst and the docor was called again. She was dead when the doctor arrived.
Coroner S.C. Ward gave a verdict of accidental death. He said death was caused by a brain hemmorrage. She suffered a concussion with possible fracture, Dr. Ward said.
Playing with her in the basement at the time of the accident besides her cousin Mary Bodnar was Mary's brother Joseph, 3. Gertrude's brother, Michael Jr., 3 was upstairs with his father.
Gertrude received the chair and table set four years ago as a Christmas gift. The children were playing with trains, trucks, wagons and other toys received last week for Christmas.
According to her mother, Gertrude was making plans to celebrate her ninth birthday Jan 24 with a party. "She wanted a doll and desk for Christmas," her mother said, "she got them and she's been happy ever since."
Surviving besides her parents and brother is her grandmother, Mrs. Kathrine Yohman of Lorain.
The body will be taken to the residence late today. Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the home and at 9 a.m. in Holy Trinity church with Rev. Fr. Joseph Kripinsky, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery with the Gluvna funeral home in charge
