Gil married Laverne Alta Palmer 18 June 1930 he was 20 and she was 16 and had 2 children - Ronald Everett (1934)and Erlene Louise (1938). They were married 20 years when she died - aged 36. He then married Ruth Bryant in 1952 and they were married 26 years when she died. He then married an old family friend Ethel Hoogstad. She had been married to his best friend for many years. They had both lost 2 partners. It was a very good relationship for about 8 years then he passed away.
He played pro football in the 1930-34 and held the record for the longest punt return in the NFL and this record was not broken during his lifetime.
