Elijah Colyer, for the past ten years assessor of the Ninth district of Logan township, died at his home at Greenwood, at 3.45 o'clock Saturday afternoon, following an illness from dropsy, of nine months.

Mr. Colyer was born June 1, 1873, at Sandy Run, now called Oak Grove, son of George and Annie Colyer, both deceased, and has always been a resident of that community and was employed as a pick-up operator in the Altoona yards of the Pennsylvania railroad.

He was married on April 25, 1894, to Ida Hench of Bellwood, and to this union was born seven children, all of whom survive.

A few days after his marriage Mr. Colyer secured a position as a brakeman in the Pennsylvania railroad yards, and on the second night at his new work had the misfortune to fall under some cars, losing his right leg. After recovering, Mr. Colyer was placed on the pick-up car, where he remained until last April when he became ill, and has since been confined to his home, rallying enough at times to be out of doors, but had many relapses, until the final serious turn last week.

Mr. Colyer was an honorary member of lodge No. 174, Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen, and of the Yellow Dogs, and a consistent member of Greenwood United Brethren church, and always took an active part in civic affairs of the community, and was highly esteemed by his fellow
employes and citizens.

The deceased is survived by his widow, two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Perry and Mrs. Clark Green of Greenwood, and the following children: Lawrence, Harry and Fred of Greenwood, Calvin of Bellwood, Mrs. Nelly Noyz of Greenwood, and Ella and Pearl, at home, and thirteen grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted in Greenwood United Brethren church at 2 o'clock on Tuesday afternoon, with interment in Greenwood cemetery.
