John W. Barger, 85, of Dutch Hill, Parker, passed away suddenly Wednesday evening of natural causes at his home.
Born on Feb. 4, 1928, in Parker, he was the son of the late Albert Meade and Alma Etna Jordan Barger.
He was married for 65 years this year to the former Helen E. Bowser, who survives.
John was long affiliated with the Church of God, first at Dutch Hill, and later at Park Hill Church of God at West Freedom, near Parker. A devout Christian witness to Jesus Christ, he served his church in many capacities. He loved to arrange speakers for the Saturday morning men's prayer breakfast at the church, was an usher for many years, and was a well-known Sunday school teacher.
He retired following 30 years of service with the former Glass Containers Corp. at Parker. He and his wife were school bus contractors with the A-C Valley School District for more than 20 years.
An avid hunter, he also enjoyed numerous fishing trips to Canada. He also enjoyed watching baseball and football on the TV.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Barry Steven Barger of East Brady and John Nelson (Ned) Barger of Parker; one grandson and wife, Barry Scott and Renae Barger of Butler; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles D. "Tom" Barger in 1998 and Sammy A. "Sam" Barger in 2002.

Private burial will be Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Dutch Hill.
