Betty Carpenter

Betty Alice Carpenter of Creswell died Sept. 26, 2008 of age-related causes. She was 81.

She was born July 30, 1927, in Columbia Falls, Mont. to Roy and Pearl Smith.

While living and working at a chair factory in Aberdeen, Wash., she met Donald Carpenter, a young soldier. They were married on Oct. 26, 1945, in Montesano, Wash.

They shared almost 63 years of marriage and had four children.

She worked as a grocery clerk at Shop-Rite for 15 years after having worked previously at Claghorn Market and Creswell Food Center.

She devoted her life to being a mother and homemaker. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by: her husband Donald of Creswell; her son Darryl Carpenter of Creswell; two daughters, Dawn Brown of Creswell and Denise Bond of Springfield; her brother Chester Smith of Portland; two sisters, Dee Pallini of St. Helens and Marcelene Smith of Molalla; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A son, Douglas Carpenter, died June 9, 1982, and a grandson, Michael Brown, died in July 1999.

After a private graveside service, she was laid to rest at Creswell Pioneer Cemetery. England's Creswell Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
