Literary Figure. "Jack," as he was called, was the next to the oldest of the five Llewelyn Davies brothers, whom playwright, J.M. Barrie based the Darling family in his 1904 masterpiece play, "Peter Pan." After the death of the brothers' parents of cancer within three years, Barrie had become the guardians of them by 1910. After attending the Royal Naval College at Osborne, he enlisted in the Royal Navy on May 5, 1907 and becoming a commissioned officer by 1910. During World War I, he was in the North Atlantic. On September 5, 1917 he married 19-year-old Geraldine "Gerrie" Gibb, and the couple had a son and a daughter. The couple lived in their parents' home with his younger brothers, when they were on holiday from boarding school. In 1924 he reached the rank of lieutenant-commander and upon retirement from the Navy, he and his family relocated to Cornwall. He died of non-military-related lung disease. He was first cousin of the author, Daphne du Maurier. "Peter Pan" became a 1911 novel and continued into films with the first being a silent film in 1924. The play "Peter Pan" is still a favorite into the 21st century with a successful 2015-Broadway production of "Finding Neverland."
