Joseph Walters Fair, aged 80 years, one month and 29 days, died in an arm chair of complications of diseases, due to the infirmities of old age at his residence 1024 Muhlenberg street. He was in declining health for the last four years. His illness was of such a nature that for some time he was unable to lie in bed because of being unable to breath properly to that position of repose. Mr Fair, who was a veteran of the Civil War, was born in Robeson township, and spent most of his life in Reading. He was a member of the Lutheran denomination, Keim Post No. 76, G.A.R., Ringold Light Artillery of the First Defenders, with which command he served part of his enlistment in the war, and of Friendship Lodge No. 5 Knights of Pythias. Mr. Fair was married twice. His first wife, Mary (Seitzinger) died many years ago. (1866) His second wife, Sarah Amanda (Beadencup) preceded him in death 14 years. He was the son of the late Levi and Catharine (Walters) Fair. From his first union two children survive, Levi, Reading and Mrs Deretha Nulty, York. From his second union there remain four children: Kate Fair, Maude, wife of Blaine Johnson, both of Birdsboro; John, Pottstown , and Emma Fair at home; also a brother, Charles, Reading.
