CLARA MERTENS

Mrs. Clara Mertens, 79, formerly of 1932 31st St., Two Rivers, died Monday night at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, where she had been a patient four years.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Thursday at Deja and Martin Funeral Chapels and at 11 am at St. John Evangelical Lutheran church, Two Rivers, the Rev. T.F. Stern officiating. Burial will be in Pioneers' Rest Cemetery.

Mrs. Mertens, nee Clara Nischke, was born Feb. 5, 1887, at Fredonia, Door County, daughter of the late William and Rosalina Kaepsell Nischke. When she was a child the family brought her to Two Rivers where April 12, 1909, she was married to William J. Mertons. He preceded her in death in 1964.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. William (Evelyn) Kaiser, Mrs. Edward (Arlene) Klabunde and Mrs. Allan (Carol) Gauthier of Manitowoc, Mrs. Wilfred (Edna) Broker of Two Rivers and Mrs. Robert (Esther) Bacca of Los Angeles, Calif.; a son, Albert of Manitowoc; a brother, Arthur of Two Rivers; a sister, Mrs. Luella Lenhardt, of Two Rivers; 28 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Friends may call at the funeral chapels after 3 pm Wednesday.
