Son of Lewis Folwell Hart. He served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was a member of Company K, High Point, Missouri Infantry. On 25 September 1862, he became a Lieutenant of the 43rd Regiment of the Missouri Militia, and was discharged as a Captain in the Cole County Home Guard.
