Chester Stanley Lloyd, M.D. of Estacada, passed away Friday evening, June 5, 2009. He was 97.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm on Thursday, June 11, at the Estacada Funeral Chapel, 110 W. 1st Ave., Estacada, OR 97023.

Stanley was born in Tumwater, Washington to Chester Stanley and Eliza Phoebe Lloyd on September 23, 1911. He was the oldest of four children.

After graduating from high school he attended Walla Walla College. Stanley went on to study medicine at Loma Linda University in Southern California.

While in California, he met IRIS PEARL BARBER. Stanley and Pearl were married in 1940. They spent almost 60 years together before Pearl passed away in 2000.

Stanley graduated from medical school in 1943 and went on to do residencies in both Washington, D.C. and Vancouver, Washington. Upon completion of his residencies he opened a medical practice in 1944, working in Portland and Gresham until his retirement in 1973. During this time he lived in Portland, Gresham and Boring. After retirement he moved to Beaver Creek and then Estacada, where he lived for the last 19 years.

His passions were his patients, his garden, and his church. He was an enthusiastic proponent of Christian education. Stan loved people, and strangers were simply friends he had not yet met. He was a man with a stong drive and firm beliefs.

He is survived by daughters, Karen Lloyd of Ashland, Oregon, Judy Storfjell of St. Joseph, Michigan, Bobbi Knight of Portland; sons, Jim Lloyd of Yucaipia, California, and Fred Lloyd of Claimesa, California, as well as 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donations will be accepted by the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
