Mr. Gene "Teeny" Henderson, age 75, passed away from cancer, Tuesday, June 9, 2009 in Sylva, NC. Born February 25, 1934 in Fort Myers, Mr. Henderson was the son of the late Olive H. and Ina Lee Henderson. Mr. Henderson retired after 30 years of service to the Florida Department of Transportation. He then worked as the owner and operator of Pavement Planning and Maintenance Systems Inc. of Lakeland. Mr. Henderson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Highland City. He was also an Army Veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Henderson is survived by a loving family that includes his wife of 56 years, Delois Henderson of Lakeland, two sons; LaRoy R. Henderson of Ozark, AL, Wade E. Henderson of Lakeland, and his brother L.J. Henderson of Sylva, NC. He also leaves two grandchildren; Donna Petrovich of Bartow, Alex Henderson of Ozark, AL, and one great granddaughter Taylor Petrovich. Services for Mr. Henderson will be held Saturday, June 13th at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Highland City, 5410 Yarborough Lane in Highland City. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. Interment will follow Monday at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell at 10:30am.
