Bernice E. Garis, 75, formerly of 2015 Broad Ave., Altoona, died Sunday at Hearthside Nursing Home, State College, where she recently was a guest. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Reuben R. & Ruth Elizabeth (Van Allman) Garis. Surviving are daughter, Joy Wheeler & husband, Robert, of Charlotte, NC; sister, Carrol J. Miles & husband, Albert, of Minersville; brother, Harold R. Garis & wife, Sue, of Whitney, TX; and several nieces & nephews. Bernice was a graduate of Altoona High School. She retired after 30 years of service as a staff clerk from Bell of Pennsylvania. She was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, 711 Seventh Ave., Altoona. Friends will be received from 9:30-11 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2009, at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home, 1204 17th St., where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Richard Henry of Faith United Church of Christ. Bernice will be laid to rest at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, Altoona.
