He was born February 27, 1916 in Highland to Orville Cox and Otes Clysta Strasburg Day.
Wayne grew up in Highland with his 13 siblings, he being the third oldest. He served an LDS Mission in the Central States Mission from 1938-1940.
He married Ruby Buhler on October 16, 1940 in the Salt Lake Temple. She died on October 14, 1977. He married LaVerle Neves Makin on September 20, 1980 in the Provo Temple.
Wayne worked at Geneva Steel, ran a 19 acre farm selling tomatoes and other produce and was the watermaster for several ditches. He loved the mountains (especially American Fork Canyon), chess, astronomy, and going to the temple.
He is survived by his wife, LaVerle, and his children: Orville (Beverly); Wilford (Karen); Karen (Daniel, deceased) Carbajal; Paul (Janice); Ivan (Nancy); Clark (Linda); Ruth (Richard) Huish; Joy (Lynn) Ruff; Lynn (DeAnn) and Eugene (Pauline); LaVerle's children: Linda, deceased (Kenneth) Gray; Arden (Lyda) Makin; Ardith (Larry) Higley; Nancy Makin; Carl (Tami) Makin; his four sisters: Dora Bringhurst; Jean Perkins; Esther Smith; and Miriam Greenland; 66 grandchildren and 122 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby, and daughters Bonnie and Jewel.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 10 a.m. in the Highland Heritage Park Ward Chapel, 10390 North Alpine Highway (5300 West). Friends may call on Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork, and at the Church from 8:40 to 9:40 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Interment: American Fork City Cemetery.
