Robert Ardell Leatham, 81, of Moses Lake, Wash., passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake.

He was born in Shelley on Sept. 22, 1927, the son of Harold G. and Florence Anderson Leatham.

He attended school in Shelley, graduating from Shelley High School in 1946. During his school years, he participated in football and boxing, winning a state championship and his golden gloves his senior year.

On July 5, 1948, he married Lola May Hanson in Elko, Nev. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were the parents of six children. The family moved to Othello, Wash., in 1958, where Robert was employed by U&I Sugar Company and Carnation Foods until his retirement in 1992. Lola passed away in 1994 in Moses Lake. He married Mary Brown in 1997, and they moved to Ephrata, Wash., where they lived for the past 12 years. Their winters were spent in Quartsite, Ariz.

Robert loved working with wood and made clocks and tables as gifts for family and friends. He loved nature and often went hunting and hiking with his sons. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of his life.

Robert is survived by his wife, Mary, of Ephrata, Wash.; his sons, Allan (Nola) Leatham of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Dennis (Sheree) Leatham of Mesa, Ariz., and Ronald (Angelique) of Gilbert, Ariz.; daughters, Wileen (Mike) Harker of Pasco, Wash., Lynne (Ross) Allen of Wellsville, Utah, and Nida (Doug) Jackson of American Fork, Utah; and stepchildren, Steven (Lisa) Doerr of Moses Lake, Charlene (L.J.) Price of Yuba City, Calif., and Mark Doerr of Seattle. He is also survived by two brothers, Dale (Sybil) and Douglas (Sharon) Leatham of Idaho Falls; two sisters, Carol (Willis) Converse of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Velda Peterson of Orem, Utah; 32 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 8, in Ephrata, Wash., with internment in Pioneer Memorial Gardens in Moses Lake.
