Note this child has more than one name -
Gravestone - David Thomas - Because this is the name his family engraved on his gravestone, this memorial calls this child "David".
Obituary/funeral notice - Willie Thomas
Transcribed obituary/funeral notice in the Ard Journals - erroneously typed as Willie Thomas Harper (see below) which resulted in two different memorials (#38207783 and #40579351)

Three year old Willie David Thomas's name:
David is possibly called "Willie" after his maternal great-grandfather William H.* Harper (~1800-~1857) and his maternal uncle William Washington Harper (1879-1940). There are several William's in David's maternal line.
David is possibly named "David" after his maternal grandfather, Elijah David Harper (1849-1928) and a maternal great-grandfather, David Washington Bryant (1825-1898).

The typed obituary/funeral notice for Willie Thomas Harper (sic) comes from the Ard Journals which are kept at the Washington Memorial Library in Macon, Bibb County, Georgia. Their inclusion of Harper as David's surname can be traced to the Macon News and Macon Telegraph newspapers' poorly written obituaries / funeral notices. Based on family history, research, and all the obituaries , it is now known that the Ard's identification of Willie Thomas Harper and my grandmother's cousin, William David "David" Thomas (June 1898 - Feb. 09, 1902), are the same person. The newspaper articles also mistakenly identify David's grandfather as Mr. E. E. (sic) Harper. David's grandfather was actually widower E. D. Harper aka Elijah David Harper (1849-1928). I am grateful for the Ard's dedicated work and their obituary and funeral notice transcription!!! Their work helped me and my family find out so much about many of our ancestors from over 100 years ago! Their work is a blessing!

David's parents, John and Maggie, marry on 21 Sep 1890 in Bibb County, Georgia [original handwritten Georgia marriage certificate]
David is the son of John "Johnnie" Thomas; nothing is known about Johnnie's birth or death dates, parents, childhood family, his occupation or his last resting place. If anyone has any information, please contact me!
David's mother is Margaret "Maggie" Harper Thomas Wilson (1871-1938). Her parents are mentioned above. David's widowed mother marries a second time to Taylor Jackson Turner aka Taylor Jackson Wilson on 14 Mar 1904 in Macon, Bibb County, Georgia. They had three children - Charlie Bernard (906-1958); Carl Eugene (1909-1931); and Paul (born 1913).

As early as the June 1900 U.S. census, widow Margaret "Maggie" Harper Thomas and her three living children are living with her widowed father, E. D. Harper. By the June 1900 U.S. census, due to death, Maggie has lost her husband John (who died 1899-1900 based on their youngest daughter's birthdate); her mother Frances Catherine "Fannie"* Bryant Harper (1851-1899); her maternal grandfather, David Washington "David"* Bryant (1825-1898); and three unnamed children who are born between 1890 and 1900 [1900 U.S. census]. In 1900, Maggie's three living children are daughters, Ida Lee May Thomas Oswald (1895-1975) and Johnnie Mae Thomas (1899-1925); and David (1898-1902).

In a bigger February 1902 picture, three related young children die with four days of each other; all from pneumonia. All three live in Militia District 481, Bibb County, Georgia. The first two children are first cousins Willie David Thomas and Jessie Lee Harper who appear to be next door neighbors on sheet 16 (Ancestry.com page 32 of 56). The third child is Samuel T. Wilson, a first cousin of Jessie Lee Harper, who is found on sheet 21 (Ancestry.com page 41 of 56).
--Jessie Lee Harper - 12 May 1901; died 13 Feb 1902; son of William Washington Harper (1879-1940) and Mary Frances Turner Wilson Harper (1881-1960). FG memorial 35481040.
--Samuel T. Wilson - 25 Sep 1897; died 13 Feb 1902; son of Samuel Theodore Wilson (1862-1918) and Susan Frances "Susan/Fannie" Brack Wilson (1869-1956). FG memorial 38514816.
