William Henry Woodard was born 1890 in St. Mary's (Auburn), Wake County, NC the only known child of "Unknown" Woodard and his wife, Annie Sanderford.
Both his parents died before 1900, and he was raised by his grandparents, James J. Sanderford & Sandol Smith, of St. Mary's, Wake Co. He was the maternal gr-grandchild of Abner Arrow Smith (Arrowsmith) and Willie Ferrell of St. Mary's, who lived for a time in Georgia, but returned to NC.
William married Pearl Lola Kelly, daughter of William Haywood Kelly & Rosa Pool/Poole, around 1913. He would have been about age 23, and she about age 24 at the nuptials.
William was a butcher in Clayton, and the couple would have 4 known children (1 boy/3 girls) as of 1920: Delacy Woodrow (1914), Vivian (1911), Annie Belle (c. 1917), and Ruth (c. 1920).
William died in 1962 at age 72. His wife of 49 years passed two years later in 1964 at age 75.
