"Funeral of Edward Scherl Set for 10:30 Saturday
Funeral services will be held at 10:30a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Church for Ph. M/3 Edward Thomas Scherl, aged 20, of 1481 Stewart Ave., who was killedin action on Okinawa May 10, 1945.
Born in Youngstown May 27, 1925 Pharmacist Scherl was a son of Florian and Katherine Maldocker Scherl. He was a graduate of St Joseph School and East High School where he played football.
Pharmacist Scherl entered the navy Sept. 7, 1943 and received his training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Corpus Christi, Tex. and Camp Pendelton, Calif. He went overseas with the Sixth Marine Division in November 1944.
Besides his parents, he leaves three brothers, Henry J. of Youngstown, Frank of Hubbard, and Adam P. of Washington, D.C. and four sisters, Mrs. Stephen Kalapos of Hubbard, and Mrs. George [V]oitus*, Mrs. John F Sentz, and Mrs. John Kalosky, all of Youngstown.
Friends may call at the Handel Funeral Home Thursday evening and Friday afternoon and evening."
*Voitus was misspelled as "Boitus" in the obituary.
