Drowning victim service
The body of 14-year-old Samuel Goff of branch was recovered from Blue Mountain Lake around 5:30 p.m. Monday. After officials had been searching the lake since the youth drowned Sunday afternoon.

Yell county Sheriff's Department spokesman said the youth drowned when he was thrown from a boat in which he was a passenger. The boat went out of control, apparently after a steering cable snapped.

Goff was riding in a boat with Robert Hurst, also of Branch, when the incident occurred.

According to the sheriff's spokesman, a skier (Charles Hurst) was being pulled by the boat when the skier fell and when the boat turned, the steering cable snapped. The youth, who was sitting on the edge of the boat, was thrown overboard during the sharp turn.

Services for the victim are scheduled for Thursday (today July 24, 1980) at 2 p.m. in Pine Log Church, with burial in the Pine Log Cemetery.

Samuel Glen Goff was born March 10, 1966, at Charleston.

Survivors include his Parents, Mr. Luther Mortell and Mrs. Georgia Ann (Walker) Goff of Branch; eight Bothers, Luther Dale, of Fort Smith, Douglas Monroe, of Booneville, Donald Ray, Harlan Alford and David Dewain all of Houston, Texas, and Roy Dean of Magazine, Marlin Lyn and Charles Lee of the Home; Four sisters, Creccia Lee Hurst, of Booneville, Sheila Ann Spencer, of Paris, Shirley Marie Stover, of Houston, Texas and Lela Faye Goff of the home; His Grandmother, Mrs. Lillie Walker Swanner, Cushing, Oklahoma, and other nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
