Susannah was born 18 Sep 1835, in Clay or Scott, Missouri , daughter of Fields B, Jacaway and Mary Ann Jones Jacaway.

She lived in Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois with her parents in 1839. I 1844 they were living in New Orleans, Louisiana where her father, Fields b. Jacaway, was chairman of a church (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) Conference and was elected president of the newly formed Branch, as recorded in the"Times and Seasons".

Susannah married George Black 6 Apr 1850 in St Louis, Missouri at the age of fourteen and a half years and soon after made the trek to Utah with her husband. They arrived in Salt Lake City on 13 Sep 1850.

In 1851 they moved to Fillmore, Millard, Utah, where George erected a small room in the three-cornered fort near the residence of Thomas B. King. The following year they were joined by Susannah's mother and stepfather, Thomas Davies and family.who built in the 12-foot space between their cabin and the adjoining one.

Three children were born to Susannah and George in Fillmore. In 1855 they moved to Sanpete County, where George joined the settlers in their war against Black Hawk.

In 1857 George took for a plural wife, Mary Ann Donnelley, to whom Susannah seemed to have a very good relationship.

In 1862 Susannah and george moved their family to Rockville, Washington, Utah there undergoing many privations and trials, pioneering in the Dixie region. They were among the first wagons to reach there. In 1870 moved back to Kanosh, Millard County, where George Black died in Nov 1872.

9 Feb 1878 Susannah was married to David Savage in St George, Washington, Utah, and moved with him to Arizona. Here she again experienced the trials of the early settlers. She devoted much time working with the Lamanites.

One of her prized possessions was a pump organ, which she acquired and learned to play after the age 50. She spent many hours a day practicing. Church hymns as well as the classics were her favorites.

In 1900 she moved to Coyote, Utah to be near her children.
