He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Connie Sue Hopper, who died September 4. He is survived by daughters, Leigh Hopper Oberholzer and Danna Sue Bridges; sons-in-law, Mark Oberholzer and Jim Bridges; baby grandson Benjamin Oberholzer and Jim Bridges; and granddaughters Sarah and Julie Bridges.

Dan was born November 25, 1933 in Freeport to Herbert and Anna Hopper. He played quarterback for his high school football team, the Brazosport Exporters. He was in the first graduating class of Brazosport High School, formerly Freeport High School. He also played basketball and sang in the choir.

Dan met Connie in Huntsville at a filling station run by his high school classmate Charles Keenan. It was love at first sight and they went to the Tastee Freeze to get better acquainted. They married on March 29, 1961.

He retired from Brazosport College, where he taught sociology and other subjects for nearly 30 years. He was a founding faculty member.

Dan was a fun and loving father. He took his family camping, fishing, to beach parties, and on road trips. Friends had many good times at the family farm in Dodge. He liked hunting, yard work, and cooking outside. He had a big grin, and loved telling stories and teasing people.
