John E. Robbins, 77, a resident of Wenatchee, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1997, at Central Washington Hospital.
He was born on July 28, 1919, in Mattoon, Wis., to Basil E. and Laura (Jesse) Robbins. He grew up and received his early education in Mattoon, graduating from Mattoon High School. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 in Illinois and served his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945 at Camp McKay, Wis. He moved to Grand Coulee in 1945, where he worked on the Grand Coulee Dam. In 1946, he entered the cable lineman construction business and worked as a lineman until 1959. In 1959, he began work with the Douglas County PUD. During that same year, he married Agnes A. Quinn at Las Vegas, Nev. He later was employed as a lineman in the construction business for the federal government until his retirement in 1976. He moved to Wenatchee in 1980 where he has since lived. In 1990, his wife, Agnes, passed away.
Mr. Robbins was a member of the American Legion Post No. 10; the Wenatchee Veterans of Foreign Wars; and the Wenatchee Eagles Lodge Aerie No. 204.
Survivors include his very special friend, Mary Fisher of East Wenatchee; his stepson, James Quinn of Wenatchee; a stepdaughter, Lynda Galbreath of Coulee City; two sisters, Laverne Zahn of Mattoon, Wis., and Rosalie Eldridge of Armandale, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by one sister.
