BOUNTIFUL - John Lawrence Eames, Jr. "Jay" passed away February 5, 2004 at LDS Hospital of complications to pneumonia and heart failure, surrounded by his family. Jay was born June 1, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of John Lawrence and Cynthia Burningham Eames. Dad spent his childhood in Bountiful, graduated from Davis High and the University of Utah. (He was red through and through.) Dad served in World War II in the European theater, Patton's 3rd Army, 16th Armored Division. He also served in the Army Reserve 96th Infantry Band playing the French Horn. He retired from Hill Air Force Base after 37 years of service. Jay married Ludean Topham, October 7, 1959. They were blessed with four children and 13 grandchildren. Dad was a family man who loved his family and thrilled at their successes. He especially enjoyed being a grandpa and spending time with his grandchildren! Dad was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints serving in many callings including an ordinance worker at the Salt Lake Temple with his eternal companion, Ludean. They also served a full-time mission to Texas, Fort Worth. Survivors include his wife, Ludean and their children: Laura Ann (Brent) McGavin, Mary Louise (Lurlen) Knight, Linda Sue (Jim) Williams, George Lawrence (Mardee) Eames. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and a sister, Lila (William) East. Preceded in death by one grandson. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 9, 2004, 11:00 a.m. at the Bountiful 43th Ward Chapel, 990 N. 100 W. Friends may call Sunday, February 8, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. and Monday 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Interment will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery. Military honors accorded by the DAV combined honor guard. The family wishes to express thanks to the staff at LDS Hospital and IHC for their care and concern. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Utah Parent Center "Jason Fund for Autism", 2290 E. 4500 S.
