Nona L. Jackson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died Thursday, March 27, 2003 at Central Washington Hospital after an extended illness. She was 72.
She was born to Floyd L. and Edna B. (Hinkley) Myers on August 30, 1930 in Salubria, Idaho. Nona spent her childhood years in Idaho moving to Washington in her early teens. Her family settled in Peshastin, where she graduated from high school in 1948.
While working at the telephone company, she met Bill Jackson and they were married at Coeur d' Alene, Idaho on November 17, 1951. They spent most of their life together in Wenatchee.
To this marriage were born a daughter, Denise and a son, Dennis. During the early years of their marriage, Nona was active in Emblem Club.
Over the course of 35 years in banking, Nona worked for Wenatchee Federal Savings and Loan, Columbia Federal Savings and Loan and Washington Mutual Savings Bank. She helped open the branch at Valley North Mall in the late 60's.
Nona retired from banking in January 1996 and again in 1997 after the birth of her youngest grandson. Her co-workers and customers had always been a very special part of her life.
Before her retirement, Nona often visited Colonial Vista, helping customers living there with their banking. Nona was a friend to all; those who knew her loved her sense of humor and loving ways.
Nona is survived by her husband, Bill of the family home; daughter, Denise (Gary) Jeffris of Cashmere; a son, Dennis Jackson and Sara Pritchard of Wenatchee; grandchildren,
Marnie Cockrill of Seattle; Tim and Megan Jeffris of Cashmere; and Dustin Jackson of Wenatchee; a step-granddaughter, Carin Jeffris of Peshastin; step-grandchildren, Becca and Rylie Bland; her sister, Althe (Wayne) Deardorff of Wenatchee; nieces, Debbie Deardorff of Entiat; Diane Ramirez and Darcy Stevens, both of Wenatchee.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Commemoration services will be held Wednesday, April 2, 1:30 p.m. at Telford's Chapel of the Valley, with Pastor Kel Groseclose officiating. There will be no visitation and the casket will remain closed at all times. A private family only interment will be held at Wenatchee City Cemetery. Following the graveside interment for the family there will be a reception at 4 p.m.at the family home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cancer Care of NCW.
