Lela I. Cook, age 98, of Michigan City, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Lifecare Center of Michigan City, with her loving family at her side.
There will be no services. Cremation will take place with burial of ashes at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. Mrs. Cook was born November 8, 1910 in Michigan City to William H. and Martha (Heinz) Steinheiser, both of whom preceded her in death. On April 23, 1931, she married Lawrence R. Cook, who passed away July 25, 1991.

Surviving are daughter Sandra Barkow of Michigan City, grandchildren Debra (Brian) Schoff, Brenda (Joe) Hooper, Cynthia Williams, Jeffrey (Jodie) Barkow and Steven (Wendy) Barkow, 21 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great grandchildren, and sister-in-law Grace Steinheiser. She was preceded in death by her daughter Darlene Cook McKee, grandchildren Karlene Ruge and Kristine Moser, 3 sisters and 2 brothers, and 3 great grandchildren Mrs. Cook had been a homemaker. She was a member of Queen of All Saints Church. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed and always in her family's hearts.
