He was born in Hugo, Il. to Frank and Essie Crowe Bennett. He married Verna J. Ellis on Sept. 19, 1955, in Bongard, Il. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Chuck (Kathy) Bennett and their children, Joshua, Adrianna, Sarah, Isaac and Lauren Bennett all of Pesotum; two daughters, with first daughter Melanie (Phil) Rund of Breese and their children, Paul (Amy) Rund and their child Layne E. Rund of Belleville; Christi (Josh) Williamson and their child Vera M. Williamson of Belleville; Crystal Rund and her child Rhiannon M. Sell of Chicago; Cody Rund of Chicago and Aryn Rund, Rebekah Rund, Dominick Rund, Michaela Rund and Gabriel Rund, all of Breese; and second daughter Dawn (Bill) Fulk of Grinnell, Iowa, and their children, Andrew and Ashley Fulk of Grinnell, Iowa; one brother, Donald Bennett of Hugo and two sisters, Lois (Bill) Jones of Villa Grove and Stella (Charley) Rubernacker of McLeansboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Jimmy Bennett.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a machinist third class.
