Jon Q. Kelly, 68, was in Navy 22 years before moving to Westport

Jon Q. Kelly, 68, of Westport died at 11:35 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2007, at his residence.

Funeral service was Monday at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with the Rev. Ken Tingley officiating. Burial was at Westport Cemetery with military graveside services.

Mr. Kelly had been a Westport resident for the past 27 years. He was employed at Cummins Inc. as an instrumentation mechanic. He retired in 1978 from the US Navy after 22 years of service as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. He enjoyed music, especially the harmonica, gardening and fishing. He played music for services at the Odd Fellows Nursing Home for 15 years.

Born Nov. 15, 1938, in Vincennes he was the son of Ralph W. and Ruby M. Hinson Kelly. He married Wilma Jean "Jeanie" Bucklin in Baxter, Iowa, on July 14, 1962.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Nancy Hacker of Westport; two sons, David Kelly and Brian Kelly of Westport; six sisters, Brenda Kelly Pruitt of Mooresville, Patrica Kelly Blessinger and Sandra Kelly Fredrick of Vincennes, Sherry Kelly Otten and Judith Kelly Stewart Lucas of Bicknell, and Marjorie Kelly Young of Huntsville, Ala.; three brothers William Ray Kelly and James Eugene Kelly, Sr., of Vincennes and Paul F. Kelly of Wheatland; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two half-brothers, Ralph Vernon Kelly and Robert Royce Kelly.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or Hospice of South Central Indiana,

Jon Q. Kelly, 68, of Westport died at 11:35 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2007, at his home following a yearlong illness.

Mr. Kelly was born and raised in Vincennes and had lived in Westport the past 27 years.

A U.S. Navy veteran of 22 years, he retired in 1978 as a senior chief petty officer. He was employed as an instrumentation mechanic at Cummins Inc.

He enjoyed music, especially the harmonica, gardening and fishing. He played music for services at Odd Fellows Nursing Home for 15 years.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home at Westport, with the Rev. Ken Tingley officiating. Calling will be from noon until 2 p.m. Monday. Military graveside services and burial will be at Westport Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Salvation Army or Hospice of South Central Indiana.
