CLAY CITY - Clarence Yegerlehner, 104, of Clay City died Sunday, July 29, 2001, in Altenheim Community Hospital in Indianapolis. He was a farmer and retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he was a rural mail carrier for several years. He was born April 26, 1897, in Clay County to John Yegerlehner and Lovina Schiele Yegerlehner. His first wife, Clara Steiner Yegerlehner, died in 1974; and his second wife, Cecil Jones Oberholtzer Yegerlehner, died in 1997. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Joanna Yegerlehner of Indianapolis; one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Donald Fulk of Clay City; one daughter-in-law, Mary Lois Yegerlehner of Clay City; one brother, Floyd Yegerlehner of Lebanon; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a large extended family. He also was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter and son-in-law, Wilma and Earl Bell; two granddaughters, Earleen Sue Porter and Donna Youngblood; one son, Kenneth Yegerlehner; four brothers; and one sister. He was a graduate and the oldest alumnus of Clay City High School, and was the last veteran of Clay County that served during World War I. He was a member of the Farm Bureau of Clay County and American Legion Post 225. He was a faithful member of First United Church of Christ of Clay City, where he served as an elder, taught Sunday School and was a delegate to the United Church of Christ Synod in the 1950s. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church, with the Rev. Gary Tatum officiating. Burial is in St. Peters Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services, church. Schoppenhorst Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to First United Church of Christ, 6414 S. Cr. 300E, Clay City, IN 47841; or Altenheim Community Hospital, 3525 E. Hanna Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46237.
